CenSARA promotes the exchange of information between our states and other interested parties related to the control of air pollution. These actions are to be accomplished within the scope of the air quality statutes and regulations. We are chartered to act as a forum to discuss air quality issues of common concern to the central states and to help identify options that can effectively resolve these issues.

The Mid-Atlantic/Northeast Visibility Union (MANE-VU) was formed by the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states, tribes, and federal agencies to coordinate regional haze planning activities for the region.

The Lake Michigan Air Directors Consortium (LADCO) was established in 1990 by the States of Illinois,Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. In March 2004, the states signed a new Memorandum of Agreement which added the state of Ohio as a member. The main purpose of LADCO is to provide technical assessments for and assistance to its member states on problems of air quality; and to provide a forum for its member states to discuss air quality issues.

The National Park Service, Air Resources Division and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Branch of Air Quality, are the lead offices for consultation with the States on behalf of the Department of the Interior. State, local, and tribal agencies formed Visibility Improvement – State and Tribal Association of the Southeast, more commonly known as VISTAS, to address regional haze
and visibility problems in the southeastern United States.

The purpose of the WRAP is to develop data, tools, and policies needed by states and tribes to improve visibility in parks and wilderness areas across the West.
